GREENS WELCOME INCLUSION IN BUDGET ‘LOCK-UP’
The Tasmanian Greens today welcomed the Premier’s move to provide both Opposition Parties with a State Budget ‘lock-up’ opportunity, normally reserved to only media representatives and a community and stakeholder invitation list compiled by Government, which is a significant precedent and move forward to more transparent and accountable government. Greens Opposition Leader Peg Putt MP said that the Greens had approached the Treasury Department requesting such a move, saying that the example had been set by the Prime Minister, Kevin Rudd, who included Opposition Members and staff in the Federal Budget lock-up. “The Greens welcome the Premier’s offer to provide a budget ‘lock-up’ session for the Treasury representatives of both Opposition Parties, plus a member of their respective staff, as, coincidence would have it, we had contacted both the Treasury Department and Treasurer’s Office on this very matter ourselves,” Ms Putt said. “Given that Kevin Rudd extended his Federal Budget Lock-Up to include representatives of the Opposition Parties and Independents, it did seem logical for a similar arrangement to be undertaken at the State level.”
